My Purpose

My new purpose in life is, along with just getting out there and having a good time, is to give YOU, the reader, a sense of what life at Washtenaw Technical Middle College is really like.

Ever made a big change in life and had no clue in the world what you're in for? Potential students and parents: I'm here to give you the honest to goodness, uncut and uncensored truth. No sugar-coating here. I'll give compliments only when they're true, and I'll be blunt about the downsides of this... unique school.

To any teachers out there who want to know what dirt is floating around? Look here. Any gossip I'll spill into this blog. But here's the catch: me and other students will remain completely anonymous. This is a blog, not a source of evidence to pin down a guilty student. ;)

To current students and alumni: you can just read this for kicks, whether it's to relive the glory days or check out what us first years are doing. It'll be good fun. :)

To anyone else, you have no real reason to be here, but keep coming anyways. Although I'm making this out to be an "informational narrative" type blog, go ahead and read it just for fun. It's really just the story of my life.

That's all I have to say, so enjoy the blog, and tell your friends! Comments are appreciated. ;)

Intro and the Orientation

Hello WTMC student, parent, teacher, alumni, potential student, or random person who just stumbled across this blog in a fit of boredom. I am otaku.of.doom, and for the next three years this blog will be part of my life. For certain reasons, my name and the names of other students will not be given. Teachers and staff, not so much. Why? You do want to know what teachers are douchebags and which ones are cool, right? And any teachers out there may want to know what people are saying about them, right? We cool on that? Okay, I think that's over.

One thing you should know about this blog: I'm not withholding judgement on anything. So if I use a cuss word or two or blow up IN ALL CAPS LIKE THIS, go read the title. It says Uncut and Uncensored for a reason. ;) I'm hoping that this will provide a sense of "realism" to the blog. I'm not saying I could possibly represent every single student at this school, because there's no way I could do that. But I'll do my best. Alright, that's enough. I'm hoping you've read the intro post on my home page, so everything's been explained. Now I'll actually cut to the chase: just what the hell happened today!

Today was Friday, August 27, 2010, which was also the last Friday of the month. Compared to the public schools from where I come from, this is early. Not that I really care that I'll have a lengthy 1.5 month summer after now. After all, we get more breaks and days off than the public schools so overall we don't have as many school days. Take that public school suckers!

I was roused out of bed this morning at... I don't even know, my room is currently a disaster and I can't get a good look at my clock, so it was all up to Mom. *smirk* So, I'll say around 7. And I will be getting up this early every single day for the rest of the year. I view this is a blessing. I woke up at 5:30 at my old high school, 6:15 is I was up for going without breakfast or proper grooming and making a mad dash for the door.

After I showered and brushed my teeth and all that, Mom and I were out the door. I live about twenty minutes away, although with rush hour traffic and dropping off siblets and crap it'll probably become thirty on Monday. On the way there, I tried listening to the radio. Apparently it's law to have every single bloody station in existence have either a commercial break or talk show nobody cares about playing at approximately 8 in the morning. Outside of that, we arrived without a hitch.

We went into the Morris J. Lawrence building, where most of the orientation stuff would be held. For about 45 minutes, there would be a continental breakfast and socializing and stuff like that. Entering the building, I made a beeline for the bagels. Grabbing one with the original name "everything bagel" (which doesn't even have everything on it, they forgot the pineapple), I got myself some coffee and started chatting with the girl in line next to me. I would up at one of the standing tables with her and her mother and brother. The were in the same year, though as obviously not twins as the sky is blue.

My mom had to walk up and join the conversation, of course. After I got a little bored, I went off to talk to a student ambassador and a fellow first year standing in the middle of the room. We chatted for a bit, and I learned a valuable lesson: first years are babied, third years are worshiped, and nobody really likes the second years.

Afterwards we divided off into groups depending on our BASE advisors. No, I haven't a damn clue what "BASE" stands for. Anyway, my group all filed into one room, and let's just say it was quite a bit crowded. We divided up once again. One group went with a redheaded girl who was an ambassador for a campus tour, and another went with a larger boy who was also an ambassador to get student IDs. Both were second years, I noticed. The third group, mine, stayed in the room and did a little chatting with the advisor. To avoid my identity being discovered, I'll refer to the advisor as "MC Hammer." Don't ask. A few girls in the group, who I'll refer to as J, J-u, T, and N, and myself hit it off pretty well, and we had a decent conversation going by the time we got to the security office at the Student Center and got our IDs. We were still talking quite a bit, though not entirely clustered together during the campus tour.

Once we returned to the Lawrence building, J, J-u, N, and I sat together in the auditorium while the deans ran their mouths for an hour. T went off to sit with her best friend, who was also coming to WTMC. Good for her, although I do hope we could still hang out.

Presentation over and done with, the students were supposed to drop by all their classes while the parents did God-knows-what.

Remember how I said that I wouldn't be able to capture the life of every student here? This is where I branch off. Most of the students have Logic and Reasoning, Environmental Science, a math class, and English. I, because I went to an advanced K-8 school back in the day, got to skip out on Logic and Reasoning and take a full-fledged college course. I happened to choose PLS 112, which is just college-speak for Intro-Level Political Science. This is cool and all, but honestly! They're making me feel like I'm the main character in a fantasy series! Harry Potter who survived the Killing Curse, Zoey Redbird of House of Night who is an "advanced" fledgling vampyre, Edward Elric of Fullmetal Alchemist who is special in almost every way imaginable, and [censored] of WTMC who gets to take a college course first semester (I admit, maybe this blog isn't totally uncensored. But it'll only be the names that are cut out, trust me!). The list goes on.

So, while everybody else was hunting down their first class, I decided to go get my PolySci textbook. It actually went pretty well. What's funny is that while I was in line, this one lady was walking around. Turns out she was trying to pick up a textbook for her daughter. I would feel really lame if I were that girl, having your mom pick up your books. I'd probably go myself anyways, even if I were sick or something. XD So I got my book. I felt accomplished afterwards.

Next I went over to the Liberal Arts building for my Environmental Science class. We played the one game where you stick a card on your back with a word on it and you have to guess your word. My word was pizza. Win. B) While playing the game, I ran into a girl I knew, but never talked too. The sad part is that she was my frequent lunch buddy at the public high school. And we never talked. I was so pathetic back then.

Math class that day... there was a cute boy. He'll be called J-o. We chatted for a bit before class started, and I decided that he was a "potential," if you catch my drift. What I loved was how I clearly felt my face flushing 'cause he was cute and all, but speech and body language-wise I didn't miss a beat. I can see us going somewhere. ^_^

English was relatively uneventful. All we really did was go over seating formations and when to use them and stuff. Afterwards, I walked with some people back to Lawrence to meet up with the 'rents. I was almost there when I realized I'd left my PolySci textbook in the English classroom, so I had to go back and get that. Fail. XP

I went to Driver's Ed later after lunch. I was halfway through the drive when I realized I still had a piece of tape on my shoulder from the game in Science. Another fail du jour. ^_^

So, I'll see you all Monday! * salutes*
